Ruto Takes Development Message to Eldoret, Inspects Sh200M Champions Market

President William Ruto on Thursday took his development agenda to Eldoret, addressing residents of Maili Nne, Huruma and Eldoret City in Uasin Gishu County as he highlighted progress made by his administration over the past four years.

Ruto said the Government remains focused on delivering the commitments contained in its manifesto, popularly known as The Plan, while accelerating development and expanding economic opportunities for Kenyans.

During his Eldoret tour, the President also inspected the ongoing construction of the Champions Retail Market, one of 14 modern markets being developed across Uasin Gishu County.

The modern market is expected to provide traders, particularly small-scale businesses and Mama Mboga, with safer, cleaner and more dignified spaces to conduct their businesses.

Ruto said the Government is constructing 600 modern markets across the country as part of efforts to transform the working environment for small traders and boost local economies.

He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that traders who form the backbone of Kenya's informal economy have access to decent and secure business premises.

“Nationally, we are building 600 modern markets, fulfilling our promise to Mama Mboga that they will do their business in decent, safe and dignified spaces,” Ruto said.

The President said his administration had not stopped at market development, noting that the Government had continued working on various programmes and projects aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.

He said the focus going forward is to accelerate the transformation of the country, expand opportunities for citizens and create an economy capable of competing with developed nations.

Ruto maintained that the Government will continue implementing its development agenda while ensuring that communities across the country benefit from ongoing investments in infrastructure, trade and other key sectors.

“We are keen on accelerating the transformation of our nation, expanding opportunities for all and transitioning our country to a first-world economy that every Kenyan will be proud to call home,” he said.

The President's visit to Eldoret comes as the Government continues to push its development agenda across the country, with modern markets being positioned as key infrastructure for supporting small businesses and improving livelihoods.
