The Kenya Mine and Quarry Workers Union has joined Kenya’s labour movement in mourning the death of COTU (K) Treasurer General Albert Njeru Obed, who also served as the General Secretary of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA).

In a condolence message, Kenya Mine and Quarry Workers Union General Secretary Bro. Wafula Wamusamia described Njeru’s death as a major loss to the trade union fraternity and thousands of workers whose rights and welfare he championed.

Wamusamia said Njeru was a dedicated trade unionist whose contribution to workers’ rights, decent employment and social justice would remain firmly remembered.

“It is with profound pain and deep sorrow that I convey my heartfelt condolences following the passing of Bro. Albert Njeru Obed. His contribution to the trade union movement, his commitment to workers’ rights and his unwavering dedication to the welfare and dignity of workers will remain deeply etched in our hearts,” Wamusamia said.

He described the late Njeru not only as a fellow trade unionist, but also as a brother, loyal friend and distinguished advocate for workers.

According to Wamusamia, Njeru served the labour movement with commitment, courage and distinction, leaving a significant void in COTU (K), KUDHEIHA and the wider trade union fraternity in Kenya and beyond.

“Bro. Albert was a dedicated and steadfast trade unionist who served the labour movement with commitment, courage and distinction. His passing leaves a great void in COTU (K), KUDHEIHA and the entire trade union fraternity in Kenya and beyond,” he said.

The Kenya Mine and Quarry Workers Union also extended its condolences to Njeru’s family, friends, colleagues, comrades and members of KUDHEIHA, urging them to remain strong as they come to terms with the loss.

Wamusamia called on the labour movement to preserve and build on Njeru’s legacy by remaining united in the pursuit of decent work, workers’ rights, social justice and dignity for all workers.

“May God grant the family strength and comfort as we mourn this great servant of workers,” he said.

The union concluded its message by honouring the late COTU Treasurer General as a committed servant of the Kenyan workforce and extended its deepest sympathies to all those affected by his passing.

May the soul of Bro. Albert Njeru Obed rest in eternal peace.
