Mt. Elgon MP Fred Kapondi has strongly denied any involvement in the death of 61-year-old parliamentary aspirant Nathan Wasama, dismissing claims linking him to the killing as politically motivated.

Kapondi says allegations associating him with Wasama’s death are part of a political campaign aimed at damaging his reputation.

The MP has further claimed that Wasama may have been killed over a personal affair, alleging that the deceased was involved in a relationship with another man’s wife. Kapondi presented the claim as an alternative explanation for the circumstances surrounding Wasama’s death, but it remains an allegation and has not been independently established.

Kapondi also disputed reports concerning a search conducted at his residence. He said the search took place while he was away and that officers found ordinary household and traditional implements, including axes, pangas and traditional sticks.

The most explosive point of his statement, however, concerns claims that 18 guns were recovered from his home.

Kapondi has rejected the allegation and threatened legal action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the claim, arguing that the statement is false and damaging to his reputation.

The MP says he is prepared to take the matter to court to challenge the allegation and seek accountability for what he considers defamatory claims.

The controversy comes as questions continue to surround the circumstances of Wasama’s death, with political tensions adding another layer to the case.

Authorities have yet to publicly establish all the circumstances surrounding the death, and the competing claims by political figures remain subject to investigation and verification.
