Eldoret Activist Claims United Opposition Is Driven by 'Political Revenge', Urges Kenyans to Reject Coalition

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has called on Kenyans to reject the emerging united opposition coalition, alleging that it is being driven by former President Uhuru Kenyatta as part of a political revenge mission against President William Ruto.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, Ngetich claimed the coalition was not founded to address the concerns of ordinary Kenyans but was instead motivated by political retaliation following the outcome of the 2022 General Election.

"The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy wishes to warn Kenyans against supporting the united opposition being fronted by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. It is dangerous for the stability and future of our country. The campaign is driven by personal grievances, bitterness and a desire for retaliation after losing the 2022 election to President William Ruto," Ngetich said.

He alleged that the opposition movement was being financed to punish political rivals rather than to provide an alternative vision for the country.

"The former President is financing a political movement and coalition not as a public service but as punishment to his political rivals. Such political revenge missions occur when leaders prioritize settling scores instead of serving the people," he added.

Ngetich argued that political competition in a democracy should revolve around policies, development and governance rather than personal attacks and revenge.

"The opposition should be offering solutions on the high cost of living, economic growth and public service delivery. Instead, what we are witnessing is a movement driven by hatred, tribalism and revenge politics," he stated.

He further claimed that President Ruto continues to enjoy growing public support despite political opposition.

"They are shocked that President William Ruto, contrary to their expectations, has performed and is enjoying the support of many Kenyans, including those who never voted for him in the 2022 General Election," he said.

The activist also accused the former Head of State of promoting division despite his international peace engagements.

"It is unfortunate that a leader who champions peace and harmony outside Kenya is, at home, allegedly funding conflict and a political takeover by his friends and tribesmen. That is a level of hypocrisy that should concern every Kenyan," Ngetich claimed.

He urged Kenyans to reject what he described as politics of vengeance and instead embrace issue-based leadership.

"In a democracy, political competition should be centred on policies and issues rather than personal attacks and revenge missions. Discussing policies strengthens democracy, reduces social tension and delivers better results for communities," he said.

Ngetich appealed to Kenyans not to support the united opposition, insisting that its agenda was not in the country's best interests.

"We therefore appeal to the people of Kenya to reject the united opposition outfit because it is now evident that it is a sponsored vehicle for revenge. Kenyans must not allow political mafia and dynasties to regain control of the country's leadership," he said.

He concluded by expressing support for President Ruto's administration and called on Kenyans to allow the government to continue implementing its development agenda.

"President Ruto deserves a second term for Kenya to transition into another democratic, non-discriminatory regime. Allowing political dynasties and their allies to return to power would reverse the democratic gains and development that the country is witnessing today," Ngetich said.

His remarks come as political realignments continue to shape the country's landscape ahead of the next General Election, with leaders from both the government and opposition intensifying their mobilisation efforts.
