Cherargei Calls for NCIC Probe Into Gachagua Over Alleged Incitement Remarks
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has welcomed a move by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what he describes as continued incitement remarks made during political gatherings.
Cherargei said he had requested the NCIC to look into Gachagua’s utterances, particularly those made in Wamunyoro and other political functions, arguing that they could threaten peace, unity and national cohesion.
The senator thanked the commission for acceding to his request, saying Gachagua should be held accountable if investigations establish that his remarks violated the law.
“He must be held accountable as per the law for the continued reckless incitement remarks he continues to make across the political platforms,” Cherargei said.
The remarks come amid heightened political activity, with leaders across the country increasingly trading accusations over statements made during rallies and political meetings.
Cherargei maintained that political leaders must exercise responsibility in their public utterances and avoid statements that could undermine peace and stability in the country.
The NCIC investigation, if pursued, could place renewed focus on the responsibility of political leaders to promote national cohesion and refrain from remarks that may fuel tension or division.
