TENP Trainee to Represent Kenya at Commonwealth Games in Scotland

 Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has celebrated one of its own after trainee Calistus Juma was selected to represent Kenya at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where he will compete in the men's 200 metres.

The institution's Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, officially bade farewell to the talented athlete on 17th July 2026, wishing him success as he embarks on the international assignment to fly the Kenyan flag on one of the world's biggest sporting stages.

Speaking during the send-off ceremony, Dr. Koech congratulated Calistus on his achievement, describing his selection as a testament to hard work, discipline and determination.

He encouraged the young athlete to compete with confidence and uphold the country's rich athletics tradition while serving as an ambassador for both Kenya and Eldoret National Polytechnic.

"This is a proud moment not only for you and your family but also for the institution and the country. We believe in your abilities and wish you success as you represent Kenya on the international stage," said Dr. Koech.

The Chief Principal reaffirmed the institution's commitment to nurturing talent beyond academics, noting that Eldoret National Polytechnic continues to support students in developing their sporting, technical and leadership potential.

Calistus is currently pursuing a Diploma in Electrical Engineering at the institution while balancing his academic studies with a promising athletics career.

During the ceremony, the athlete expressed gratitude to the institution's management, lecturers and fellow trainees for the encouragement and support they have extended throughout his journey.

"I sincerely thank the institution for believing in me and supporting my dream. I will do my very best to represent Kenya with honour and make Eldoret National Polytechnic proud," said Calistus.

He pledged to give his best performance during the championships and carry the institution's name with pride on the international stage.

The send-off ceremony was attended by senior members of the institution's management, including David Alube, Head of the Business Department, Jackson Yator, Head of the Applied Engineering Sciences Department, and Musa Kibet, the Student Representative Officer (SRO), who joined the Chief Principal in wishing the athlete success.

The institution noted that Calistus' selection to Team Kenya reflects the quality of talent being nurtured at Eldoret National Polytechnic and serves as an inspiration to other trainees to pursue excellence both in academics and co-curricular activities.

Eldoret National Polytechnic has continued to encourage holistic education by providing opportunities for students to excel in sports, innovation, research and technical skills development alongside their academic programmes.
