"Prof. Ndung'u Is a Hypocrite and Tribalist," Rights Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Fires Back After Explosive Remarks on President Ruto

 Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has launched a scathing attack on former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u over his recent criticism of President William Ruto, accusing the former minister of hypocrisy, tribalism and attempting to tarnish Kenya's image before the international community.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, Ngetich condemned Prof. Ndung'u's remarks made during a speech abroad, describing them as disrespectful to the Office of the President and the Republic of Kenya.

Ngetich said it was unfortunate that a scholar of Prof. Ndung'u's stature would publicly criticize the Kenyan government on an international platform instead of raising his concerns through local institutions.

He alleged that Prof. Ndung'u had failed to demonstrate loyalty to the government while serving as Treasury Cabinet Secretary, claiming he had become a "silent saboteur" despite being appointed based on his distinguished record in economics.

The activist further accused the former Central Bank of Kenya Governor of being motivated by personal bitterness after allegedly failing to advance his own interests while in government. According to Ngetich, President Ruto's leadership style emphasizes accountability, oversight and performance, leaving little room for personal agendas.

Ngetich also dismissed claims that President Ruto has undermined public institutions, arguing instead that the Head of State has strengthened governance through regular consultations, public engagement and decisive leadership.

He maintained that President Ruto's administration has made significant progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and economic reforms within a relatively short period, adding that development projects have been distributed across the country without discrimination.

In his strongest criticism, Ngetich described Prof. Ndung'u as "a hypocrite and a tribalist," alleging that his criticism of President Ruto was driven by ethnic politics rather than genuine concern for the country. He further claimed the timing of the remarks coincided with sustained criticism of the government by opposition leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.

The activist urged Kenyans to reject what he termed propaganda aimed at damaging the country's reputation ahead of the 2027 General Election. He called on citizens to promote patriotism and defend Kenya's image both locally and internationally.

Prof. Ndung'u has recently criticized President Ruto's style of governance, arguing that public institutions should be allowed to operate independently and warning against what he termed increasing centralization of power. Those remarks have triggered mixed reactions, with supporters and critics engaging in a heated national debate over governance, accountability and leadership.
