Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has urged Kenyans, particularly members of the Meru community, to disregard what he described as a well-funded propaganda campaign aimed at creating the impression of a strained relationship between President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, Ngetich claimed that recent reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging a fallout between the President and his deputy were politically sponsored and carefully coordinated to influence public opinion.

According to Ngetich, the alleged misinformation campaign coincided with political activities by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua in the Mt. Kenya region, particularly in Meru County. He argued that the timing of the reports suggested they were deliberately designed to undermine confidence in the Kenya Kwanza administration while advancing a specific political agenda.

He maintained that the narratives being circulated were not accidental but part of a calculated strategy to tarnish the relationship between President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki. Ngetich said the campaign sought to portray divisions within the country's top leadership in an attempt to influence the political direction of the Meru community.

"The relationship between President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki remains strong and is founded on mutual trust, respect and a shared commitment to serving the people of Kenya," Ngetich said.

He added that Deputy President Kindiki continues to enjoy the full confidence of President Ruto and the entire United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership, dismissing claims that there was any conflict between the two leaders.

Ngetich praised Kindiki's leadership, describing him as one of the country's most disciplined, loyal and hardworking public servants. He said the Deputy President has remained focused on supporting the implementation of the government's development agenda since assuming office.

According to the activist, Kindiki's leadership has helped strengthen the President's political support, particularly in the Mt. Kenya East region, where he said the Deputy President has continued to build confidence among residents through his development-oriented approach.

He argued that this growing support had unsettled some political opponents who were now allegedly resorting to misinformation campaigns in an attempt to weaken the government's influence in the region.

Ngetich called on supporters of Deputy President Kindiki and Kenyans at large to remain vigilant against what he termed as sponsored propaganda intended to create unnecessary political tension.

He emphasized that governments operate within structured constitutional and policy frameworks that require cooperation between the President and the Deputy President to ensure effective service delivery.

"The Office of the President and the Office of the Deputy President are constitutional institutions established under the law. They are protected by the Constitution and should not be subjected to political manipulation or misinformation campaigns," he said.

Ngetich further alleged that sections of the media had become vehicles for politically sponsored content, accusing unnamed wealthy political actors of financing native advertising and sponsored editorials designed to influence public opinion.

He claimed that such campaigns deliberately omit key facts while selectively presenting information to suit predetermined political interests.

According to him, the objective of the alleged propaganda was to persuade residents of Mt. Kenya East to abandon the Kenya Kwanza administration and support the DCP party.

He maintained that President Ruto appointed Kindiki as Deputy President based on his experience, discipline, integrity, loyalty and proven leadership abilities.

Ngetich said Kindiki assumed office at a critical period when the country required stable leadership and had continued to demonstrate commitment to the President's development agenda without wavering.

He insisted that there was no indication of any disagreement between the two leaders, adding that their partnership had remained central to the government's efforts to implement development projects across the country.

"The President and his deputy continue to work closely in delivering the promises they made to Kenyans. Their relationship is built on trust and shared responsibility, and attempts to portray otherwise are misleading," he said.

Ngetich appealed to members of the Meru community not to allow themselves to be divided by political propaganda, urging them instead to support peaceful politics and evaluate leaders based on their performance rather than unverified claims circulating online.

He also called on political leaders to promote issue-based campaigns instead of engaging in misinformation that could create unnecessary political divisions among communities.

The activist reiterated that the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy would continue advocating for responsible political discourse, constitutionalism and national unity, urging all Kenyans to reject propaganda and remain focused on peace, development and the country's democratic values.
