Oscar Sudi Accuses Gachagua of Fueling Political Violence, Says Attack on Kang'ata Was Meant to Win Public Sympathy

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of pursuing power through dangerous political tactics following the violent disruption of Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata's church event.

In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, Sudi alleged that attempts to intimidate or harm Governor Kang'ata were politically motivated and aimed at generating public sympathy.

"Rigathi Gachagua, even if you want to dominate Murima, please do not go down this path. Governor Irungu Kang'ata is your brother. Attempting to take his life for public sympathy is barbaric. You are power-hungry," Sudi said.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions after chaos erupted during a church service attended by Governor Kang'ata, with reports of violence and confrontations involving rival political supporters. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation from leaders across the political divide, who have called for restraint and respect for places of worship.

Sudi's comments further escalate the ongoing political rivalry in the Mt. Kenya region, where competition for influence ahead of the 2027 General Election has intensified.

His accusations against Gachagua come just hours after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki condemned political violence, insisting that disagreements should never be resolved through intimidation, destruction of property or attacks on leaders and their supporters.

The latest exchange underscores growing concerns over the rising temperature of Kenya's political landscape, with several violent incidents reported during political and church gatherings in different parts of the country over the weekend.
