Miano Hails AI Training for Nyandarua Youth as Boost for Conservation and Eco-Tourism

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has hailed the completion of an intensive training programme that equipped young people in Nyandarua County with artificial intelligence and advanced technology skills to support smart conservation and eco-tourism.

Miano said the initiative is helping translate national policies on digital transformation, environmental protection and youth empowerment into practical opportunities at the grassroots level.

The training focused on providing participants with digital tools and data skills that can be applied in conservation, tourism promotion, environmental monitoring and the development of innovative eco-tourism solutions.

“By empowering our youth with digital tools and data skills, we are turning high-level policies into grassroots realities,” Miano said.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that technology is increasingly becoming central to the future of tourism and wildlife conservation, with artificial intelligence and smart data offering new ways to monitor ecosystems, improve visitor experiences and support sustainable management of natural resources.

She said young people are well positioned to drive innovation in the sector by developing technology-based solutions that promote local tourism sites, strengthen conservation efforts and create new employment opportunities.

The programme is expected to support Nyandarua youth to participate more actively in the green economy while contributing to the growth of eco-tourism in the county and beyond.

Miano reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding digital skills training and building partnerships that enable young people to take advantage of emerging opportunities in tourism, conservation and technology.

The training comes as Kenya continues to embrace artificial intelligence and data-driven systems in tourism planning, conservation monitoring and destination marketing, with the government also pursuing digital-skilling programmes for young people and tourism enterprises.
