Bungoma Governor and President William Ruto's Western Region re-election coordinator, Kenneth Lusaka, has stepped up campaigns for the President's 2027 re-election, citing ongoing development projects as evidence that the Kenya Kwanza administration has delivered tangible benefits to the people of Western Kenya.

Speaking during a boda boda empowerment forum at Muji in Webuye East Constituency on Sunday, Lusaka urged residents to support President Ruto for a second term, arguing that the government's investment in infrastructure, healthcare and transport has transformed Bungoma County and positioned it for greater economic growth.

The governor said the expansion of Matulo Airstrip in Webuye is among the flagship projects expected to unlock the region's economic potential. According to Lusaka, the contractor is set to begin construction of a modern passenger terminal while extending the runway to accommodate commercial flights.

He noted that once completed, the upgraded airstrip will attract investors, create employment opportunities, enhance tourism and improve the movement of goods and people within the region.

Lusaka also highlighted the near-complete Webuye Modern Market, saying it will provide traders with a modern and secure business environment while stimulating commerce and increasing local revenue.

The governor further praised the ongoing renovation of Masinde Muliro Kanduyi Stadium, noting that the facility recently hosted the Western Regional Secondary Schools Games, demonstrating the value of collaboration between the national and county governments in promoting sports development.

On transport infrastructure, Lusaka pointed to the dualing of the Rironi–Mau Summit–Malaba Highway and the planned extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba through Myanga in Bumula Constituency, saying the projects will significantly reduce transport costs, improve regional connectivity and attract investment to Western Kenya.

In the health sector, the governor announced that KSh100 million has been allocated for the construction of Sinoko Hospital in Webuye East, describing the project as a major boost to healthcare services for thousands of residents.

As the country gradually shifts focus towards the 2027 General Election, Lusaka maintained that President Ruto's development record would give him an advantage over his political rivals.

He dismissed the opposition's chances of defeating the President, claiming internal divisions and the absence of a unified agenda had weakened its ability to mount a serious challenge.

"The opposition is already grappling with internal cracks and lacks a united agenda. President Ruto's scorecard speaks for itself, and Kenyans will judge him based on development, not political rhetoric," Lusaka told the gathering.

The empowerment event, hosted by Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, brought together senior Kenya Kwanza leaders led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, President Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet, Members of Parliament and other regional leaders.

The leaders also contributed funds towards strengthening boda boda operators' savings groups and urged youth to embrace government empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.

The meeting served as both an economic empowerment initiative and a political mobilisation platform, with Kenya Kwanza leaders expressing confidence that continued implementation of President Ruto's development agenda would strengthen support for his re-election bid as political activities ahead of the 2027 polls continue to gather momentum.
