Ziwa and Segero/Barsombe Wards Lauded as Major Development Projects Transform Lives Across Uasin Gishu

Ziwa and Segero/Barsombe Wards have been highlighted as standout examples of grassroots development after the completion of multiple infrastructure, water, education, and health projects aimed at improving service delivery and boosting local livelihoods.

Over the past four years, the two wards have witnessed a series of transformative projects in what leaders describe as a shift from political promises to measurable performance and tangible results.

In Ziwa Ward, several Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms have been completed at Kabobo, Emtit, Chepkongony, Ainamoi, Sachor, and Kipkeikei, significantly improving access to early learning facilities for young children.

Residents have also benefited from expanded access to clean and safe water following the completion of key water projects in Mafuta, Lengut, Kaplesa, Sachangwan, Saniak, and Dam 3. These projects have been credited with easing water shortages and improving public health standards across the ward.

Healthcare infrastructure has also received a major boost, with ongoing roofing and structural works at Ziwa Level 5 Hospital expected to enhance service delivery upon completion. At Ziwa Sub-County Hospital, the installation of a modern dialysis machine and a fully equipped theatre has already improved access to specialized medical care for residents who previously had to travel long distances for treatment.

In addition, the operationalization of the long-stalled Moi-Soy Milling Plant remains a key priority in the region’s economic transformation agenda, with leaders expressing optimism that it will create jobs and stimulate local agribusiness once fully functional.

Transport and connectivity have also improved significantly following the completion of the Kapterigin Bridge and the installation of more than 20 culverts across key road networks. A high-mast floodlight installed at Ziwa Sirikwa has further enhanced security and boosted night-time business activity.

In Segero/Barsombe Ward, similar development strides have been recorded, including the completion of ECDE classrooms at AIC Segero ECDE centre.

Water access has been strengthened through the drilling, equipping, and solarization of boreholes in Sitiyot, Kiborokwa, Kapngetuny II, and Segero Centre II. The completion of the Segero-Moiben Water Project and the expansion of the Ngeny Water distribution lines have further improved access to clean water for hundreds of households.

Infrastructure development has also been prioritized, with upgrades to local roads and the completion of major bridges and drainage structures, including the Koisagat–Kapsabul Bridge and the Barsombe–St. Peters Box Culvert, enhancing mobility and easing transport challenges in the region.

During a recent bursary cheque distribution exercise held at Kiborokwa Ward Office, more than 1,582 beneficiaries from Ziwa and Segero/Barsombe Wards received financial support to help them pursue their education.

The programme was described as a major boost for vulnerable families, with leaders emphasizing the importance of education as a key driver of long-term development and social mobility.

Residents across both wards have welcomed the projects, noting that improved access to water, education, healthcare, and infrastructure has significantly changed daily life and opened up new economic opportunities.

Local leaders say the developments reflect a broader commitment to equitable resource distribution and grassroots transformation, with continued investment expected in the coming years to sustain the momentum.

As implementation continues, attention now turns to completion timelines for ongoing projects and the long-term impact of the investments on livelihoods, youth employment, and economic growth across the region.
