“Linda Mwananchi Is My Political Baby, I Won’t Abandon It” – Caleb Amisi Defies Calls to Join Opposition Coalition

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi Luyayi has firmly dismissed speculation that he is planning to abandon the Linda Mwananchi movement, insisting that the political outfit he founded will remain independent despite growing pressure to align itself with the emerging opposition coalition.

Speaking to Vipasho News on Sunday evening in Kitale after attending the Alternative Government public rally, the second-term legislator said he remains fully committed to the movement and has no intention of walking away from what he described as his political creation.

“I will not move away from Linda Mwananchi because it is my baby. I will not let it go no matter what because it matters to me,” Amisi stated.

The outspoken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker likened abandoning the movement to a mother harming her own child before it has had the chance to grow and realize its potential.

Amisi argued that Linda Mwananchi has become a significant force in Kenya's political landscape, challenging established political norms and giving ordinary citizens a platform to advocate for constitutionalism, accountability, and democratic reforms.

The legislator maintained that the movement would resist any attempts to have it absorbed into the broader opposition alliance currently taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Transforming Linda Mwananchi into a subordinate entity of the opposition alliance will ultimately amount to the betrayal of the tenets of democracy and render those who have made sacrifices in restoring constitutional gains look like betrayers,” he said.

The MP further warned individuals he accused of plotting to infiltrate the movement and divert its agenda, insisting that the younger generation remains vigilant against political manipulation.

“Honestly, how can we replace one legacy politician with another one and call it change?” Amisi posed.

He said the Gen Z generation, which has increasingly become vocal on matters governance and accountability, would not fall victim to deceptive political narratives.

At the same time, Amisi clarified that his opposition to Linda Mwananchi formally joining the opposition team associated with Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka should not be interpreted as an attempt to weaken the opposition.

According to the MP, democratic movements must retain their independence if they are to effectively champion the interests of citizens and hold leaders accountable.

His remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are intensifying efforts to build a united political front capable of challenging President William Ruto's administration in the 2027 elections.

The future relationship between Linda Mwananchi and the wider opposition coalition is expected to remain a subject of intense political debate as realignments continue to shape Kenya's evolving political landscape.
