TENP Chief PrincipalJoins Uasin Gishu County in Welcoming U.S. Charity ‘Chair The Love’ to Donate 25 Wheelchairs to Persons with Disabilities
The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) today took center stage in a remarkable humanitarian event as Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech joined the County Government of Uasin Gishu in receiving a delegation from Chair The Love, a charitable organization from the United States. The organization visited to donate 25 wheelchairs to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the county, a move expected to improve mobility, independence, and overall quality of life for the beneficiaries.
The delegation, led by Executive Director Auggie Bylott, was officially received by H.E. Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, alongside the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth and Gender Affairs and the Chief Officer overseeing disability and social services. The event was also graced by local leaders, community representatives, and members of the public who came to witness the life-changing donation.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Charles Koech highlighted the importance of partnerships between educational institutions, government, and international organizations in addressing social challenges. “TENP is committed to community engagement and social responsibility. This collaboration exemplifies how educational institutions can play a vital role in promoting inclusivity and improving the lives of vulnerable groups,” said Dr. Koech.
The Chief Principal further emphasized that empowering Persons with Disabilities goes beyond providing mobility aids—it is about restoring dignity, confidence, and access to opportunities. “Every wheelchair donated is not just a device; it is a pathway to independence, education, and social participation,” he added.
The handover ceremony featured colourful entertainment provided by TENP trainees, including musical performances and cultural displays, showcasing the talent and creativity nurtured within the institution. The lively performances were well-received by both the visiting delegation and local officials, adding a celebratory tone to the proceedings.
Executive Director Auggie Bylott praised the warm reception and highlighted the mission of Chair The Love, noting that the organization is dedicated to providing practical support to PWDs and fostering partnerships that create long-term impact. “We believe that small acts of support can lead to significant improvements in people’s lives. Our partnership with TENP and the County Government is an example of what can be achieved when communities and organizations work together,” Bylott said.
H.E. Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea lauded the initiative as a demonstration of the county’s commitment to disability inclusion and social empowerment. “These wheelchairs will make a real difference in the lives of recipients, helping them participate fully in education, economic activities, and daily life. We welcome more partnerships that enhance the welfare of our vulnerable citizens,” he stated.
The donated wheelchairs were handed over to beneficiaries in an emotional ceremony, with many recipients expressing joy and gratitude. Local community leaders noted that the intervention is timely, especially for those who have faced mobility challenges that limited their independence and access to education or work opportunities.
The event also included discussions on broader disability support programs, with county officials reaffirming their commitment to expanding access to assistive devices, vocational training, and inclusive social services. Dr. Koech and county leaders encouraged other organizations, both local and international, to participate in initiatives that empower Persons with Disabilities and strengthen community resilience.
This collaboration between TENP, the County Government of Uasin Gishu, and Chair The Love illustrates the power of partnership in creating meaningful change. By combining education, government support, and international philanthropy, the initiative provides not only physical mobility but also hope, dignity, and renewed opportunity for Persons with Disabilities in the region.
As Kenya continues to advance its national disability inclusion agenda, such initiatives are seen as crucial in promoting equality, enhancing independence, and ensuring that all citizens can participate fully in social and economic life.
