Kenya Tourism Ministry Welcomes New PS Amb. Julius Bitok as Leadership Transition Takes Effect

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife - Kenya, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, has officially welcomed Amb. Julius Bitok as the new Principal Secretary for the State Department for Tourism.

Amb. Bitok was formally received and welcomed by CS Rebecca Miano at the Ministry, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the leadership of Kenya’s tourism sector. The Ministry described the transition as an important step in strengthening institutional continuity and advancing the country’s tourism transformation agenda.

The Ministry also extended appreciation to outgoing Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa for his dedicated service, noting that his tenure was marked by strong leadership, commitment, and key contributions toward strengthening Kenya’s tourism sector during a period of transformation and recovery.

As the new PS assumes office, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building on ongoing reforms aimed at positioning Kenya as a globally competitive and sustainable tourism destination. Key priorities include innovation in tourism products, diversification beyond traditional safari offerings, and expansion of cultural, heritage, and community-based tourism experiences.

CS Rebecca Miano emphasized that the Ministry remains focused on sustainability, inclusivity, and value addition across the tourism value chain. She noted that the “Magical Kenya” brand continues to evolve as the country seeks to attract new markets while ensuring that tourism benefits are widely shared across all 47 counties.

Amb. Bitok’s entry into the docket is expected to strengthen coordination, deepen stakeholder engagement, and accelerate implementation of strategic tourism initiatives aimed at growing arrivals and increasing tourism earnings.

The Ministry reiterated that teamwork between national leadership, county governments, private sector players, and development partners will remain central to achieving long-term sector growth.

With the new leadership team in place, the Ministry expressed confidence that Kenya’s tourism sector is well-positioned to reach greater heights under the Magical Kenya brand.
