Hon. “CNN” Nguna to commission Tumila Primary School administration block in Mwingi West

Mwingi West MP Hon. Charles Ngusya Nguna, fondly known as “Hon. CNN”, will commission the newly renovated administration block at Tumila Primary School on Friday, 19th June 2026 at 12 noon.

The event, organized by the MP’s Mwingi West Press Unit, marks another milestone in Nguna’s education-focused development agenda for the constituency. The facility, funded through the Mwingi West National Government Constituencies Development Fund for FY 2024/2025, involved renovation and extension of the school’s staffroom.

*Boost for teacher welfare*

Tumila Primary, like many rural schools in Kitui County, has grappled with inadequate office and staffroom space. Teachers previously shared cramped rooms that doubled as storage and meeting areas, affecting lesson preparation and record keeping.

According to the poster released by Hon. CNN’s office, the new block is branded “TUMILA PRIMARY SCHOOL – RENOVATION & EXTENSION OF STAFFROOM. FUNDED BY MWINGI WEST NG-CDF FY 2024/2025. PATRON: HON. CHARLES NGUNA, MP. Wendi Wenyu Watho Wakwa.”

“Wendi Wenyu Watho Wakwa” translates to “Your presence is our strength” in Kamba, a slogan Nguna has used to emphasize community-driven development.

Education officials in Mwingi West say the upgraded administration block will improve supervision, storage of learning materials, and create a conducive environment for teachers. A better staffroom directly impacts lesson planning and learner outcomes, especially with CBC implementation requiring more teacher collaboration time.

*Nguna’s education record*

Hon. Charles Nguna, serving his second term, has prioritized education infrastructure since taking office. Through NG-CDF, Mwingi West has funded construction and renovation of classrooms, laboratories, administration blocks, and water projects in over 40 public schools.

The MP, who earned the “CNN” nickname due to his background in media and communication, runs an active press unit that documents constituency projects. The unit’s logo – featuring a camera and microphone – appears on the Tumila commissioning poster alongside the tagline “Capturing & Development, Informing the People.”

Residents say Nguna’s hands-on approach has made him accessible. He frequently attends school functions, bursary issuance events, and project handovers, often engaging parents directly in Kamba.

*Community expectations*

Tumila Primary’s Board of Management and Parents’ Association have mobilized the community for the 19th June event. Local leaders, education officials, and NG-CDF committee members are expected to attend.

Parents in the area have welcomed the project, noting that teachers’ working conditions affect learners. “When a teacher has a decent place to prepare lessons, our children benefit,” said a parent from Tumila location.

The commissioning comes as schools prepare to close for the April holiday and ahead of the second term. Nguna is expected to use the forum to address parents on bursary applications, school feeding programs, and the government’s 100% transition policy.

*Broader education push in Kitui*

Kitui County continues to face challenges of overstretched facilities, teacher shortages, and distance to schools in arid areas. MPs across the county have been channeling NG-CDF funds toward infrastructure to bridge the gap while awaiting national government capitation and TSC deployments.

Hon. Nguna has consistently lobbied the Ministry of Education for more teachers and capitation for Mwingi West schools. His office maintains that constituency funds should complement, not replace, national government obligations.

*Friday’s agenda*

The commissioning ceremony at Tumila Primary is scheduled to start at 12 noon. It will include a tour of the new block, remarks from school management, local administrators, and the MP.

As patron of the project, Hon. CNN is expected to reiterate his commitment to completing stalled school projects and initiating new ones before the 2027 election cycle.

For Tumila learners and teachers, Friday will be more than a ribbon-cutting. It will mark the start of better working conditions for educators who shape the next generation in Mwingi West.
