Cherargei Blasts Governor Bii Over Sh2.4 Billion Stalled Health Projects, Questions Snake Park and Museum Spending

A fresh political storm is brewing in Uasin Gishu after Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei launched a scathing attack on Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, accusing him of neglecting critical health projects while prioritizing less urgent developments.

Speaking on the state of healthcare infrastructure in the county, Cherargei claimed that Uasin Gishu is leading the country in stalled health projects, with unfinished facilities and initiatives valued at approximately Sh2.4 billion.

The senator criticized the county administration for what he described as misplaced priorities, arguing that residents continue to suffer from inadequate healthcare services despite the huge investments already committed to the sector.

“Instead of focusing on completing stalled health projects worth Sh2.4 billion, the governor is now constructing a Sh5 million snake park and a Sh25 million museum,” Cherargei said.

According to the senator, the county government should channel its resources toward reviving and completing health facilities that were started using public funds before embarking on new projects that may not have an immediate impact on residents’ welfare.

The remarks are likely to intensify political tensions in Uasin Gishu, where debates over development priorities and public spending have increasingly dominated local politics.

Cherargei maintained that healthcare remains one of the most pressing needs for residents and urged the county leadership to fast-track the completion of stalled projects to improve service delivery and ensure taxpayers receive value for money.

The criticism comes amid growing scrutiny of county governments across the country over delayed infrastructure projects and concerns about the utilization of public resources.

Governor Bii’s administration has yet to publicly respond to the senator’s latest remarks.

Political analysts say the latest exchange underscores the heightened focus on accountability and development ahead of future electoral contests, with healthcare expected to remain a key issue in Uasin Gishu and the wider North Rift region.
