Ruku Urges Church Leaders to Promote Fair and Constructive Criticism in Governance

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has urged religious leaders to embrace objective and constructive criticism as a key pillar in strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the country.

Ruku said the church plays a vital role in holding leaders accountable, noting that its influence in society makes it a critical partner in promoting transparency and good governance.

He made the remarks while addressing congregants and clergy during a church engagement, where he emphasised that oversight of public leaders should be fair, balanced, and solution-oriented.

“Criticism should be objective and geared towards building and improving, not tearing down,” Ruku said, adding that religious leaders should also acknowledge both government achievements and areas that require improvement.

The Cabinet Secretary observed that constructive feedback enables leaders to remain focused on their responsibilities and enhances efficiency in service delivery to citizens.

He, however, cautioned against one-sided or overly negative criticism, warning that it risks undermining development efforts and weakening cooperation between leaders and communities.

Ruku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with faith-based institutions, saying such partnerships are essential in promoting accountability, unity, and sustainable development at all levels of society.
