Jeremiah Kioni and Kajiado Leaders Warn Against Dragging Uhurus Name into Petty Politics
By Josphat Kinyanjui
Leaders in Kajiado have come out strongly in defence of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, warning politicians against dragging his name into petty politics and what they termed as reckless political attacks.
Led by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, the leaders said Uhuru’s development record across the country speaks for itself and deserves respect from all leaders regardless of political affiliation.
The leaders strongly castigated politicians they accused of making utterances that do not augur well with national unity and respect for leadership, saying some remarks being made in the political arena are clearly meant to demean and disrespect the former Head of State.
Their remarks come in the wake of recent sentiments by some Coastal leaders, especially Hassan Omar Hassan, which have sparked sharp political reactions from Uhuru’s allies and supporters.
Nominated Senator Peris Tobiko and Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi said leaders should focus on addressing the challenges facing Kenyans instead of engaging in divisive politics and personal attacks.
According to the leaders, former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a key role in infrastructure development, economic growth and regional integration during his tenure and therefore deserves dignity and recognition.
They further called for political tolerance and maturity, warning that continued attacks against retired leaders could set a dangerous precedent in the country’s leadership culture.
