Eldoret’s Rapid Transformation Signals New Era of Growth, Says Governor Jonathan Bii
Eldoret is undergoing a major transformation less than two years after attaining city status, with significant investments in infrastructure, housing, security, and urban development already reshaping the region into a modern and globally competitive hub.
Speaking after hosting officials from Co-operative Bank of Kenya for discussions on strategic partnerships, Jonathan Bii said the county government remains committed to accelerating development projects aimed at improving livelihoods and positioning Eldoret as a leading economic centre in the region.
Governor Bii noted that several key link roads in areas including Langas, Mwanzo, Maili Nne, Kipkaren, Shauri, and Bandaptai have already been tarmacked, significantly improving transport, accessibility, and trade within the fast-growing city.
He added that the construction of an ultra-modern market that will accommodate more than 4,500 traders is underway and is expected to strengthen Eldoret’s reputation as a major commercial hub in the North Rift region.
The governor further highlighted ongoing affordable housing projects in Pioneer, Railway City, Kidiwa, and AMS, describing them as game-changing developments that are not only redefining the city skyline but also creating employment opportunities for hundreds of young people.
“As a county, we are focused on building a city that offers opportunity, dignity, and modern infrastructure for all residents,” said Governor Bii.
In a move aimed at boosting security and supporting a vibrant 24-hour economy, the county is also planning to install 20,000 street lights equipped with digital CCTV cameras through a Public-Private Partnership approved by the National Treasury.
According to Governor Bii, the initiative will enhance public safety, improve business operating conditions, and encourage more investment into the city.
The county boss said discussions with Co-operative Bank officials centered on areas of collaboration ahead of the rollout of the landmark Kenya Urban Support Program, which is expected to inject further momentum into Eldoret’s urban transformation agenda.
Governor Bii expressed confidence that partnerships between the county government, financial institutions, and the national government will play a critical role in unlocking the city’s full economic potential.
“With strategic partnerships and sustained investment in infrastructure and urban planning, Eldoret is steadily becoming one of Kenya’s most attractive cities for business, investment, and quality living,” he said.
