CS Oparanya Commissions New Saluting Dais at National Police College Embakasi
The Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, on Thursday officiated the commissioning and official handover of a newly constructed saluting dais at the National Police Service College.
The project, located at the Embakasi ‘B’ Campus in Nairobi, was funded and supported by the Kenya National Police DT SACCO as part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and welfare within the National Police Service.
The ceremony brought together senior government officials and top police leadership, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, General Service Unit Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, and the Commanding Officer of the college’s Embakasi ‘B’ Campus, William Samoei.
Speaking during the event, CS Oparanya praised the partnership between the cooperative movement and national security institutions, saying it demonstrates the important role collaboration plays in nation building.
“The cooperation between SACCOs and security institutions strengthens not only the welfare of officers but also the overall capacity of the National Police Service to effectively execute its mandate,” he said.
He described the commissioning as a symbol of shared commitment and collective responsibility toward building stronger public institutions and improving service delivery across the country.
The CS also commended the leadership of the SACCO for its continued investment in initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and socio-economic well-being of police officers and their families.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja reiterated the importance of prioritising officers’ welfare and financial security, noting that a motivated police service is essential to effective public safety and security.
He lauded the SACCO for supporting sustainable welfare programmes, saying such initiatives contribute to a more responsive and efficient police service.
The National Chairman of the SACCO, David Mategwa, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to empowering officers through accessible financial services, welfare programmes, and long-term economic support initiatives.
He noted that the SACCO remains focused on enhancing the socio-economic stability of police officers by offering reliable financial solutions tailored to their professional and personal needs.
The newly commissioned saluting dais is expected to serve as a central feature during parades, graduations, and ceremonial functions at the institution. Officials said the project not only modernises the parade grounds but also reflects the values of honour, discipline, and service associated with police training.
The project joins several other initiatives previously undertaken by the SACCO in support of the National Police Service, including investment in health and fitness infrastructure such as the gymnasium at Kiganjo, educational support programmes, and other welfare-focused projects.
The event was also attended by SACCO Chief Executive Officer Solomon Atsiaya, board members, delegates, and senior management officials.
