Trans Nzoia County Launches Routine Maintenance of Kitale CBD Roads

The County Government of Trans Nzoia County has kicked off routine maintenance works on key roads within the Central Business District (CBD) of Kitale, aiming to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and ensure smooth public use.

The exercise, coordinated by the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development under Kitale Municipality, involves repairing potholes, sealing surface cracks, spot resurfacing of worn sections, and repainting road markings including lane lines, parking bays, and pedestrian crossings.

Kitale Municipal Manager Irine Nangole, who inspected the ongoing works, stressed the importance of preserving the town’s infrastructure. “We are repairing worn-out roads, sealing cracks to prevent further damage, and repainting markings to improve order and safety in the CBD,” she said.

Her remarks were echoed by the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Pius Gumo, who highlighted the broader goal of keeping Kitale clean, functional, and attractive. “Kitale town is the face of the county. We are working hand in hand with the municipality to ensure the town remains functional and attractive for all,” he stated.

The maintenance programme also includes drainage clearance and minor repairs, particularly important during the rainy season. Key roads being targeted include Post Office Road, Kenyatta Street, Moi Avenue, Mak Asembo Street, Robert Ouko Street, Bank Street, and Mount Elgon Road.

“Our overall objective is to maintain a safe, functional, and efficient road network within Kitale town, which is the largest urban centre in the county,” said Gumo.

Officials noted that the routine maintenance will ease traffic flow, improve business operations, and enhance the town’s image as a growing commercial hub, contributing to both economic development and improved quality of life for residents.

The county government called on motorists and pedestrians to exercise patience and adhere to traffic advisories while works are ongoing to ensure safety and efficiency.
