Thousands of Youth Gather in Nairobi for MYM Eucharistic Celebration

More than 10,000 young people drawn from across the country converged at St. Mary’s Msongari Grounds in Nairobi for the annual Missionary Youth Movement (MYM) Eucharistic celebration, held to mark the Feast of St. Mark.

The vibrant event, presided over by Bishop David Kamau, brought together youth in a powerful expression of faith, reflection, and renewal. The gathering was characterized by prayer, song, and a strong call to purposeful Christian living among young people.

In his homily, Bishop Kamau challenged the youth to recognize the unique value of their age, describing youthfulness as a priceless gift that should be offered to Christ. He urged them to remain steadfast in their faith and to avoid distractions that could derail their spiritual journey.

“Give Jesus your youthfulness, and you will find true happiness,” he said, emphasizing that young people have a critical role to play in the mission of the Church.

Drawing from the Gospel, the bishop further encouraged the congregation to let go of anything that may hinder them from responding fully to God’s calling. He reminded them of their identity as missionaries and called on them to live lives rooted in service, commitment, and faith.

The celebration also featured the launch of a book highlighting the life and legacy of Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, recognized as a Servant of God. The publication underscores his enduring example of humility, holiness, and dedication to service—values organizers said remain relevant for today’s youth.

As the event came to a close, participants were commissioned to go out as ambassadors of faith, inspired to live meaningful lives grounded in Christian values. Organizers noted that the annual gathering continues to play a key role in nurturing spiritual growth and strengthening the missionary spirit among young Catholics in Kenya.
