Storm Brews as Top Opposition Leaders Missing from MP Kiaraho’s Funeral Program
A political storm is brewing ahead of the funeral service of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho after several high-profile opposition figures were conspicuously omitted from the official program.
Missing from the lineup are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, alongside a host of leaders aligned with the united opposition.
Their absence has sparked speculation and debate, particularly given their political influence and connections to the region. Observers say the omission could signal deepening political divisions or disagreements over the handling of the high-profile event.
In contrast, the official program lists President William Ruto among the key speakers, alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The area governor is also scheduled to address mourners.
The exclusion of opposition leaders from such a significant national event has raised questions about inclusivity and protocol, especially in moments meant to unify leaders and citizens in mourning.
Attempts to get clarification from the event organizers on how the program was structured have so far been unsuccessful. There has also been no official communication from the sidelined leaders regarding whether they will attend despite not being listed.
The funeral of the late MP is expected to attract a large turnout, drawing political leaders from across the divide as well as local residents. Whether the unfolding controversy will overshadow the solemn occasion remains to be seen.
