Mandago Urges Voter Registration Push to Boost Rift Valley’s Political Influence
Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has called for intensified voter registration efforts, saying millions of eligible Kenyans risk being left out of the democratic process despite holding national identification documents.
Speaking during a public engagement, Mandago noted that more than two million people in the Rift Valley region have acquired IDs but are yet to register as voters. He argued that bringing this group into the electoral roll could significantly reshape the region’s political strength.
“If those with IDs but not registered as voters take that step, Rift Valley will become a solid voting bloc with nearly 4.7 million votes,” he said.
The senator emphasized that voter registration is a critical civic duty and urged leaders, community organizations, and institutions to mobilize eligible citizens to enlist ahead of future elections.
He said increased voter participation would not only strengthen democracy but also enhance the region’s bargaining power in national politics.
Mandago further called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to intensify registration drives and ensure that the process is accessible, especially in rural and underserved areas.
Political analysts say the Rift Valley remains one of Kenya’s most influential voting regions, and higher registration numbers could have a significant impact on future electoral outcomes.
The call comes amid renewed focus on voter preparedness, with leaders across the country encouraging citizens to take part in shaping the nation’s leadership through the ballot.
