Kisumu Hosts Security Sensitisation Drive to Boost Tourism Confidence
Hospitality stakeholders in Kisumu have received assurances of strengthened safety and security measures as the government ramps up efforts to position the lakeside city as a key tourism and investment hub.
Speaking during a sensitisation forum held on Friday, Norbert Talam, Director General of the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA), said the initiative seeks to enhance collaboration between hospitality players and security agencies to improve preparedness and response.
“We are here to engage stakeholders, including hotel managers and security heads, on the importance of safety and preparedness. Our goal is to ensure that Kisumu remains secure for business, investment, and tourism,” Talam said.
The forum brought together hotel operators, security personnel, and other key players in the tourism value chain, focusing on best practices in safety management and crisis response. Participants were urged to adopt proactive security measures to safeguard both visitors and local investments.
Talam noted that the sensitisation exercise forms part of a broader nationwide campaign aimed at restoring and strengthening confidence among both domestic and international tourists. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards across all tourism circuits.
Kisumu, known for its strategic location along Lake Victoria and growing urban appeal, has increasingly attracted investors in the hospitality sector. Officials believe that improved security coordination will further enhance the city’s reputation as a safe and competitive destination.
Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that stronger partnerships between the private sector and security agencies will play a key role in unlocking the region’s tourism potential.
The government continues to roll out similar engagements across the country as part of ongoing efforts to boost visitor confidence and drive growth in the tourism sector.
