Kimengich to Leaders: Act Now or Lose Public Trust in Anti-Corruption Fight

Outgoing Catholic Bishop of Eldoret, Dominic Kimengich, has issued a strong call to Kenya’s top leadership to take decisive and visible action against corruption, warning that the vice continues to erode public confidence and stall national development.

Speaking during his farewell address in Eldoret, Bishop Kimengich said corruption remains deeply entrenched in the country, undermining key institutions and widening inequality. He challenged leaders to move beyond promises and demonstrate tangible commitment to fighting graft.

“Kenyan leaders must show seriousness in dealing with corruption. It is not enough to speak against it; people want to see real action,” he said.

The bishop noted that the persistent misuse of public resources has weakened service delivery in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, ultimately affecting ordinary citizens the most.

He urged government officials to embrace accountability and integrity, emphasizing that leadership comes with a moral obligation to safeguard public resources. He also called on anti-corruption agencies to intensify their efforts and ensure that those implicated in graft cases are prosecuted without delay or favoritism.

At the same time, Kimengich appealed to Kenyans to reject corrupt practices at all levels, saying the fight against corruption requires collective responsibility.

“Every citizen has a role to play. We must all say no to corruption if we want to build a just and prosperous nation,” he added.

As he exits the Eldoret Diocese, Bishop Kimengich expressed optimism that the country can overcome corruption if leaders commit to genuine reforms and prioritize the needs of the people.

His remarks come at a time when the country continues to grapple with corruption concerns, with growing calls for stronger enforcement and transparency in public service.
