Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan Disburses Sh67.2 Million in Bursaries to Over 8,000 Students
Yusuf Hassan has reaffirmed his commitment to education and community empowerment following the disbursement of Sh67.2 million in bursaries to 8,283 students across Kamukunji.
The funds were issued during the recent Kamukunji Bursary Day held at Eastleigh High School, where thousands of parents and students gathered in a show of support and appreciation. The event highlighted the growing trust between the legislator and his constituents, built over years of sustained investment in education.
According to Hassan, the bursary program is designed not only to ease the financial burden on families but also to expand access to education for vulnerable students. Of the total beneficiaries, 1,600 are enrolled in technical and vocational training institutions, reflecting a broader strategy to support diverse career pathways and equip young people with practical skills.
“This initiative is about giving every child a fair chance,” Hassan said during the event. “Education remains the most powerful tool we have to transform lives and uplift communities.”
Since first taking office in 2011, Hassan has overseen the distribution of approximately Sh533 million in bursaries, benefiting more than 73,000 students and trainees. The long-running program has played a significant role in improving school retention rates and increasing access to both academic and technical education within the constituency.
Education stakeholders in Kamukunji have credited the initiative with reducing financial barriers that often prevent students from completing their studies. Many families say the bursaries have provided a critical lifeline, enabling children to remain in school and pursue their ambitions.
Local leaders and residents who attended the event described the program as impactful and consistent, noting that it has contributed to long-term social and economic development in the area.
As the constituency continues to expand its education support programs, Hassan emphasized the importance of sustained investment in youth. “Every student we support today is a future professional, entrepreneur, or leader,” he said. “This is how we build a stronger Kamukunji.”
The bursary program remains one of the flagship initiatives under Hassan’s leadership, underscoring a broader focus on inclusive development and community-driven progress.
