The Director General/CEO of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), Dr. Alice Kande-gakio, joined fellow education leaders at the ongoing KEMI First International Conference 2026 for a high-level panel on “𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 – 𝘈𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘌𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴.”
The panel featured distinguished experts including Dr. Wilson Chelimo (The Kenya National Examinations Council), Dr Reuben Nthamburi Mugwuku (TSC KENYA), and Subira Neema, HSC (KICD Kenya).
Dr. Kande highlighted how the KNQA is advancing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) amongst other critical components of the National Qualifications Framework as a transformative pillar of lifelong learning ensuring that skills gained outside formal education are assessed, certified, and integrated into national qualification pathways. This is particularly significant in Kenya, where over 20 million people in the informal sector and unemployed youth stand to benefit from formal recognition of their acquired competencies.
The panel emphasized that effective school leadership is critical in translating curriculum reforms into measurable competencies, inclusive learning pathways, and improved learner outcomes.
The KNQA applauds Kenya Education Management Institute-KEMI for convening this important platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, and looks forward to building on these conversations during the upcoming KNQA 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (https://conference.knqa.go.ke/) scheduled for 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵–𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘆, which will further advance discussions on qualifications, skills recognition, and alignment of education systems with the future of work.
