Bakulei Depot Launch Sparks New Hope for Farmers in Soy
Soy Constituency has taken a major leap in strengthening its agricultural sector following the official launch of the Bakulei Aggregation NCPB Depot, a project expected to transform how farmers store, market, and profit from their produce.
The launch, led by Soy MP David Kiplagat, drew high-profile leaders including Principal Secretary for Agriculture Kiprono Rono, Senator Jackson Mandago, NCPB Regional Manager Gilbert Rotich, and Kenya Seed Managing Director Sammy Chepsiror. Their presence signaled strong national and regional backing for initiatives aimed at boosting farmer productivity and incomes.
Addressing residents and stakeholders during the event, Kiplagat described the new facility as a “game changer” for local farmers who have long struggled with post-harvest losses and limited market access.
“This depot will ensure our farmers can safely store their produce, aggregate for better pricing, and access wider markets. It is a practical solution to challenges that have held back our agricultural potential for years,” he said.
The Bakulei Aggregation Depot is expected to streamline the collection, storage, and distribution of farm produce, reducing wastage while improving efficiency across the value chain. Leaders noted that such infrastructure is key to enhancing food security and strengthening the country’s agricultural competitiveness.
In a move aimed at promoting crop diversification, hundreds of farmers also received free coffee seedlings during the launch. The initiative is designed to encourage farmers to venture into high-value crops, boosting household incomes and building resilience against market fluctuations.
Senator Mandago and PS Rono both emphasized the importance of coordinated leadership in delivering impactful agricultural programs, calling for continued collaboration between national and local governments.
As the facility begins operations, optimism is high among farmers that the depot will usher in a new era of improved earnings and sustainable agricultural growth in Soy and the wider Uasin Gishu region.
MP Kiplagat reaffirmed his commitment to championing farmer-focused development, noting that empowering agricultural communities remains central to driving long-term economic progress.
