Kindiki Flags Off 2026 Safari Rally in Naivasha

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Thursday flagged off the Safari Rally Kenya 2026 at the KWS Training Institute in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on behalf of President William Ruto.

The colourful ceremony marked the official start of the internationally acclaimed motorsport event, which forms part of the World Rally Championship calendar.

Prof. Kindiki was accompanied by government officials, rally organisers and motorsport stakeholders during the flag-off ceremony held on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The event attracted rally drivers, teams, fans and local leaders eager to witness the start of one of Kenya’s most celebrated sporting competitions.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Deputy President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting global sporting events that showcase Kenya on the international stage while boosting tourism and economic activity in host regions.

He noted that the Safari Rally has continued to attract global attention and visitors to the country, contributing significantly to the growth of the tourism sector and local businesses, particularly in the Naivasha region.

The rally, known for its challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, will see drivers navigate rugged tracks, dusty plains and muddy sections across various stages in the Great Rift Valley.

Organisers said this year’s edition features top international rally drivers alongside local competitors battling for championship points and national pride.

Local businesses and hospitality operators in Naivasha and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from increased visitor numbers during the multi-day event.

The Safari Rally returned to the global rally calendar in 2021 after nearly two decades and has since re-established itself as one of the most iconic and demanding rounds of the World Rally Championship.
