Kakamega County Mourns Death of Polytechnic Principal Carolyne Khamete



The County Government of Kakamega has issued an official message of condolence following the sudden death of Ms. Carolyne Khamete, the principal of Kakamega County Polytechnic.

In a statement dated March 27, 2026, the Office of the Governor of Kakamega confirmed that Ms. Khamete’s death was unexpected and is currently under police investigation. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Governor Fernandes Barasa described Ms. Khamete as a dedicated educator who played a pivotal role in advancing technical education in the county. According to the statement, she joined the county government in 2015 and previously served at Matioli County Polytechnic before being transferred to Kakamega County Polytechnic.

During her tenure, Ms. Khamete was credited with demonstrating exceptional diligence, commitment, and passion for mentoring students, particularly those sponsored by the county government in partnership with development organizations. Many of these trainees had previously dropped out of formal education, and her mentorship was said to have significantly transformed their lives.

Governor Barasa highlighted her compassion and deep understanding of students’ needs, noting that her contributions left a lasting impact on both learners and colleagues.

“At this time of great grief and loss, we hold her family in our prayers,” the governor said, extending condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the student community.

The county government has called for patience as investigations continue, while tributes continue to pour in from across the education sector in Kakamega County.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
