The Government has announced plans to operationalise the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Mutyambua Campus and strengthen services at Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital, in a move aimed at expanding medical training and improving access to healthcare in the region.

The announcement was made during a public participation forum held under the Inua Jamii Mashinani initiative, led by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, in Mutyambua. Residents were briefed on key government programmes aimed at improving service delivery, livelihoods, and infrastructure across the county.

Plans for the KMTC Mutyambua Campus include the construction of a 10-classroom tuition block and a 340-bed hostel, which are expected to enhance medical training capacity and accommodate students from across the country.

In addition, Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital will benefit from upgraded medical equipment through a partnership between the national and county governments under the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP). The initiative aims to improve the quality of healthcare services and expand access to essential medical care for local residents.

During the forum, residents were also updated on other ongoing government initiatives, including the Affordable Housing project in Wote, the construction of modern markets in Wote and Kathonzweni, support to farmers through subsidised fertiliser, and the ongoing Emali–Matiliku road construction project.

The event brought together representatives from several government agencies, including officials from KeNHA, Konza Technopolis, KIMC, the State Department for Housing, Ministry of Health officials, and KMTC representatives.

Speaking during the forum, PS Muthoni emphasised the government’s commitment to improving both healthcare and education services in underserved areas. “These initiatives are part of our broader strategy to ensure that communities in Makueni and across Kenya have access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities,” she said.

The operationalisation of KMTC Mutyambua Campus and the upgrade of Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital are expected to create jobs, increase medical training opportunities, and enhance healthcare delivery for residents in Makueni County.
