Why Leah Sankaire Is Celebrating: A Dream Maternity for Kajiado West
Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire has every reason to be grateful after securing approval for the construction of a modern maternity complex at Olooseos Dispensary in Keekonyokie Ward, Kajiado West.
In an emotional message, Sankaire described the groundbreaking as “one of my most humbling days,” revealing that she personally presented the proposal to the Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation in October last year. After months of consultations, meetings and follow-ups, the project was finally approved.
The new facility will include a fully equipped modern maternity ward, post-natal ward, pre- and antenatal units, a laboratory, newborn unit (NBU), nutrition room, kangaroo mother care room, theatre and staff quarters — a significant boost to maternal and child healthcare in the region.
“This place holds deep memories for me. I was born in this facility,” she shared, noting that the dispensary is not just a health centre but a cornerstone for generations in her village and surrounding communities.
The partnership with Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation marks a major milestone in improving healthcare access in Kajiado West, an area that has long grappled with limited maternal health infrastructure.
Sankaire thanked the Foundation for its cooperation and commitment to making the dream a reality, terming the initiative part of her broader vision of “building legacies and touching lives.”
Residents say the project reflects her compassionate leadership and hands-on approach to development.
For many in Kajiado County, the new maternity is more than a building — it is a symbol of hope, dignity and safer deliveries for mothers and newborns.
Mama County 034, as she is fondly known, continues to earn praise as a kindhearted leader committed to transforming lives at the grassroots.
