PS Mukhwana Tours Elgeyo Marakwet as County Industrial Park Project Gains Momentum

The Principal Secretary for Industry, Juma Mukhwana, on Thursday toured Elgeyo Marakwet County to assess progress on the construction of the county’s Aggregation and Industrial Park, a flagship project expected to spur agro-processing and manufacturing growth in the region.

Dr. Mukhwana, accompanied by Governor Wisley Rotich, conducted a site visit to a 100-acre parcel of land in Kapchemutwa Ward where the industrial park is set to be established.

Speaking during the visit, the PS confirmed that the project will kick off with the construction of eight factories, marking the first phase of development. He noted that the park is part of the government’s broader plan to enhance value addition and industrialization at the county level.

Governor Rotich revealed that earlier delays in commencing construction were caused by land acquisition challenges, which have since been resolved by the National Land Commission.

“The issues surrounding land acquisition have been sorted out, clearing the way for the project to proceed,” said the Governor. “This will transform our county into an agro-processing and manufacturing hub besides creating employment for our people.”

The industrial park has already attracted interest from potential aggregators in key value chains, including avocado, mango, coffee, potato, and dairy. Investors are expected to establish manufacturing sheds and cold storage facilities to support processing and value addition, boosting farmers’ earnings and strengthening market access.

Among those present during the tour were County Commissioner David Kosgei, County Executive Committee Members Lazarus Chebii, Robert Kangogo and Thomas Maiyo, County Attorney Dorcus Cheruiyot, and Chief Officers Elizabeth Korir and Emmanuel Birir, alongside other county officials.

Once operational, the Aggregation and Industrial Park is anticipated to position Elgeyo Marakwet as a strategic industrial hub in the North Rift region, unlocking new economic opportunities and accelerating local development.
