Nyeri Double Murder Suspect Detained for 30 Days as Investigation Continues

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intensified investigations into a case linked to 23-year-old Joseph Njoroge Weru, who is suspected of involvement in the deaths of two young women.

The investigation, led by homicide detectives and supported by experts from the Crime Scene Investigations Unit (CSI), the Photographic Imaging and Acoustics Unit, and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), has focused on determining the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Mary Yamasei Merutuni (28) and Beatrice Nyawira Nyokabi (22).

The suspect was apprehended in Nyeri on 13 February 2026 and arraigned on 16 February 2026. The court granted a 30-day detention order to allow detectives to complete their investigations.

During the inquiry, the suspect guided officers to locations connected to the victims, where investigators recovered personal belongings and evidence relevant to the case. The DCI has confirmed that all evidence is being carefully documented and preserved.

Authorities are also following leads to determine whether additional victims may be linked to the suspect in areas where he previously resided, including Nyandarua, Nakuru, Nyeri, Laikipia, and Juja in Kiambu County.

The DCI has urged members of the public with information regarding missing persons in these regions to report to the nearest police station as efforts to ensure justice continue.
