Kosgey Accuses Nandi Hills MP Kitur of Misleading National Assembly Over Kapkakaron Land Petition
A director of Tinderet Development Trust, Wakili Allan Kosgey, has sharply criticized Bernard Kitur over a petition concerning the disputed Kapkakaron land, accusing the legislator of acting in bad faith and withholding crucial information from Parliament.
Kosgey faulted the conduct of the Nandi Hills MP, terming it “egregious” for allegedly failing to inform the National Assembly of Kenya Petitions Committee that the matter involving the Trust and its directors had already been investigated by state agencies and that no wrongdoing was established.
According to Kosgey, investigations conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and a subsequent review by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) cleared the company and its officials of any criminal culpability in relation to the Kapkakaron land dispute.
“It is deeply concerning that the Honourable Member proceeded with a petition without disclosing to the committee that competent investigative authorities had already looked into the allegations and exonerated us,” Kosgey said. “This omission paints an incomplete and misleading picture.”
The petition, lodged before the National Assembly’s Petitions Committee, raises concerns about the ownership and management of land in Kapkakaron, an issue that has sparked debate among local residents in Nandi County.
Kosgey maintained that the petition was pursued in a manner calculated to “besmirch and taint” the reputation of Tinderet Development Trust and its directors. He argued that presenting allegations that had previously been investigated and dismissed undermines both due process and public confidence in institutions.
He further called on the National Assembly committee to consider the findings of the DCI and the DPP before making any determinations on the matter, insisting that transparency and fairness must guide parliamentary proceedings.
Efforts to reach Kitur for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
The Kapkakaron land dispute has remained a contentious issue in parts of Nandi Hills, with stakeholders divided over historical ownership claims and development interests. The National Assembly Petitions Committee is expected to deliberate on the petition in the coming weeks.
