Kithure Kindiki Drums Up Support for Broad-Based Government in Nyanza
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has rallied residents of the Nyanza region to support the re-election of President William Ruto in 2027, saying continued partnership with the government will accelerate development projects and economic transformation.
Speaking at Miriya Comprehensive School in Homa Bay County during a fundraiser for a women empowerment programme, Prof. Kindiki cautioned residents against leaders pushing the region back to the opposition after the next General Election.
“The people of Nyanza were not created to be in the opposition continually. Avoid leaders who want to take you back there,” Kindiki said.
He argued that supporting President Ruto’s re-election would guarantee the completion of ongoing multi-billion-shilling projects and unlock additional development initiatives in the region. According to the Deputy President, key projects currently underway include construction of markets, roads, piers, and rural electrification.
“Support the broad-based government in order to transform your lives even more with development projects,” he added.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi echoed the Deputy President’s sentiments, stating that leaders from the region had resolved to back President Ruto’s second-term bid.
“Let us support President Ruto's re-election for development to continue flourishing in our region,” Mbadi said.
Meanwhile, Oburu Oginga, leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, revealed that discussions were at an advanced stage regarding a possible pre-election coalition pact with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“We are going to negotiate with like-minded parties but we will begin with UDA,” Oburu said, urging party members to remain united. He challenged dissatisfied ODM leaders to exit the party instead of fueling internal wrangles.
ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga also criticized the Linda Mwananchi faction, questioning its agenda and warning members against actions that could divide the party.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who was also present, issued a stern warning to politicians against inciting violence or using criminal gangs to cause unrest.
“We will take stern measures against any politician who causes a breach of peace,” Murkomen said, adding that the government would not allow chaos or bloodshed driven by political interests.
The leaders called on residents to remain united and focused on development as political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election begin to take shape.
