Family Appeals to William Ruto for Help as Bomet Man Battles 23-Year Illness
A family in Bomet East is appealing to President William Ruto for urgent assistance as their kin continues to battle a mysterious illness that has ravaged his face for over two decades.
Robert Mutai, a resident of Kipreres Ward in Chelemei village, has been suffering from an undiagnosed disease that reportedly began as a small pimple inside his nose 23 years ago. According to his family, the condition progressively worsened, destroying his nose, upper jaw, and eyes, leaving him in severe pain and in need of specialized medical care.
For years, Mutai’s family has sought treatment from various hospitals in a desperate effort to save him. In the process, they say they have sold all their possessions and exhausted their resources, leaving them unable to afford basic necessities, including food.
The case gained widespread attention on social media, where images and details of Mutai’s condition moved many Kenyans. Touched by his story, a group identifying themselves as “Team Strong Family,” led by Arap Uria, traveled from Eldoret to Bomet to support the family and spearhead an online fundraising campaign.
“So far, we have raised KES 1.73 million to support his treatment,” the team said in a public appeal. “We believe in a listening President and a compassionate leader beyond the office. We hope this message reaches him.”
The group has now formally addressed their plea to President Ruto, expressing hope that the Head of State will intervene to ensure Mutai receives specialized medical attention and support.
As the fundraising efforts continue, well-wishers across the country are being urged to share Mutai’s story in hopes that it will reach the highest office and secure the medical intervention he urgently needs.
