Moiben MP Prof Phyllis Bartoo Empowers Local Youth with Motorbike Initiative

In a moving story of resilience and transformation, Prof Phyllis Bartoo has highlighted the inspiring journey of a young man from Junction Chepkoilel, whose determination has now opened the door to a brighter future.

Adams Korir, a resident of Junction Chepkoilel, spent years working at busy matatu stages as a tout — commonly known as mtu wa squad — striving daily to support his family despite difficult circumstances. His story reflects the struggles faced by many young people navigating economic hardship, yet refusing to give up.

“For years, Adams showed resilience, grit, and an unwavering sense of responsibility,” said Prof Bartoo. “Through long days filled with uncertainty, he remained committed to improving his life and that of his family.”

In fulfillment of a personal promise to uplift and empower, the legislator recently supported Korir with a motorbike — an investment expected to transform his livelihood by enabling him to venture into the boda boda transport business.

According to Prof Bartoo, the initiative is part of a broader vision to promote sustainable empowerment rather than dependency. “Real change does not come from handouts,” she noted. “It comes from giving people the tools and opportunities they need to build their own future.”
