Sifuna Pledges Reconciliation with ODM Colleagues Following Ida Odinga’s Call for Unity
Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has expressed his readiness to reconcile with party colleagues, responding positively to a call for unity by Ida Odinga.
The statement was made on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, during celebrations marking what would have been Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday. Sifuna invoked the late party leader’s principles of dialogue, consultation, and collective decision-making as a guide for resolving internal differences.
“I have listened to Ida Odinga. There is no one in ODM I would not sit down with, no matter how many times they have insulted me. Mama Ida, you have asked us to sit and talk. I am very prepared, it doesn’t matter what happened between us, as Mama has said,” Sifuna said.
He added that Ida Odinga’s guidance emphasizes the importance of adhering to the party’s foundational principles, ensuring that disagreements do not disrupt ODM’s mission.
“Mama wewe ndiye uko, umetuambis tuungane, so no matter what you have said to me or how badly you feel about me, I am ready to sit down and iron out our reasons. Sometimes tensions rise, we are human, but Mama has guided us well,” Sifuna said.
He further stressed that consultation, fairness, and consistency with ODM’s values must remain central to maintaining cohesion within the party.
“You have told us to always consult and always be firm and fair and always remember the principles that the ODM party was built on. With that, there will be nothing to worry about,” Sifuna added.
The Secretary General’s remarks come amid ongoing internal debates within ODM, highlighting the need for dialogue as a tool for resolving conflicts while preserving the party’s larger objectives.
Sifuna pledged to actively work toward unity, vowing to engage members who have experienced tension or disagreements in recent months, ensuring that the party continues to honor the legacy of its late leader, Raila Odinga, and remains committed to democracy, justice, and political activism in Kenya.
