President William Ruto Makes Chapati During Visit to Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Campus in Karen
President William Ruto delighted guests and onlookers on Friday when he joined members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in the kitchen at the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Nairobi Campus in Karen, rolling and cooking chapati (roti) as part of his official engagement with the community.
The light-hearted moment was captured on video and shared widely, showing President Ruto in a suit and apron, carefully rolling dough and placing it on a pan heated over a gas burner alongside community members. The footage, which quickly drew smiles from those present and netizens alike, saw the President taking instructions from a chef as he turned the chapati to cook it to perfection.
The gesture came during Ruto’s visit to the campus of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s educational institution in Nairobi County, where he engaged with community leaders and commended their contributions to Kenya’s growth. During the visit, he praised the community for its longstanding role in sectors such as housing, healthcare, and education, and underlined the importance of partnership between the government and community groups in national development.
Among those accompanying President Ruto were Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, reflecting the significance of the engagement.
The chapati-making moment was more than just a culinary interaction — it symbolised cultural connection and camaraderie between the Head of State and the Dawoodi Bohra community. Social media users responded with amusement and admiration, with many commending the President’s willingness to participate in an activity that resonated with everyday Kenyan life.
