Nyakera Pledges Disability Inclusion After Visit to Special Needs Centre
Incoming Nairobi Governor Irungu Nyakera has pledged to prioritise disability inclusion in leadership and public policy, saying the needs of persons living with disabilities must be fully mainstreamed in governance.
Mr Nyakera was speaking after visiting Agape Special Centre in Roysambu Constituency, where he donated food items and interacted with children living with autism, cerebral palsy and mobility challenges.
He commended the centre’s work in providing care and therapy to children with special needs, noting that such institutions play a critical role in supporting vulnerable families.
The former Kenya Investment Authority chairperson said disability issues would feature prominently in his manifesto, adding that his administration would consistently champion the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities in Nairobi.
“Disability is not a matter of choice, and inclusion must be treated as a core governance issue,” he said, calling for collective responsibility in building an inclusive society.
Mr Nyakera urged members of the public to support Agape Special Centre through donations of food, clothing, diapers, sanitary towels, therapy equipment such as wheelchairs, or financial contributions via PayBill 866051.
