Murkomen Holds Extensive Security Consultations with Lamu Woman Representative

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today held in-depth consultations with Lamu County Woman Representative Hon. Muthoni Marubu as part of the government’s continued engagement with regional leaders on matters of security, peace, and development. The high-level meeting reviewed the prevailing security situation in Lamu County and explored ways of strengthening cooperation between national government agencies and local leadership.

CS Murkomen expressed appreciation for the support and commitment demonstrated by Hon. Marubu and her fellow leaders in promoting peace and stability in the coastal county. He noted that leadership collaboration remains a cornerstone in the fight against insecurity, adding that the government values the role played by elected leaders in mobilizing communities, sharing intelligence, and supporting security operations on the ground.

During the consultations, the Cabinet Secretary reiterated the government’s firm commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all Kenyans. He emphasized that Lamu, due to its strategic location and economic importance, remains a priority area in the national security agenda. Murkomen said the Ministry of Interior continues to strengthen the capacity of security agencies through improved equipment, enhanced personnel deployment, and better coordination among security units.

The CS further highlighted ongoing investments in security-related infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, aimed at improving accessibility and enabling faster response by security forces. He noted that improved road networks also open up previously marginalized areas, stimulate economic activity, and enhance service delivery, thereby addressing some of the underlying causes of insecurity.

Murkomen underscored that the government’s development agenda is anchored on equity and inclusivity, stressing that no region will be left behind. He said the integration of security and development initiatives is essential in uniting the country and fostering long-term stability. According to the CS, infrastructure development, economic empowerment, and community engagement are key pillars in sustaining peace.

Hon. Marubu, on her part, welcomed the continued engagement with the Ministry of Interior and reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the national government to ensure lasting peace in Lamu County. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to deepen collaboration between national and county leadership in order to keep Lamu and the country safe while advancing equitable development and national unity.
