Kiambu County and COSECSA Train 80 Surgeons in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
Kiambu County Government, in partnership with the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA), has successfully trained 80 surgeons from 12 counties and the Kenya Defence Forces in laparoscopic surgery over the past two days.
The intensive training, which included live surgical demonstrations, was conducted at Kiambu Level Five Hospital—one of the region’s recognized surgical training centers. Participants were equipped with advanced skills in minimally invasive surgery, a modern technique that uses small incisions instead of large cuts.
Speaking during the training, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi said the initiative reflects the county’s commitment to strengthening specialized healthcare services and improving patient outcomes.
“Laparoscopic surgery represents the future of modern medicine. It significantly reduces pain, minimizes blood loss, and enables patients to recover faster. By investing in the training of our surgeons, we are directly investing in the quality of care our people receive,” said Governor Wamatangi.
The governor noted that Kiambu County has prioritized health infrastructure, technology, and human resource development to position the county as a center of excellence in medical training and service delivery.
Laparoscopic procedures are increasingly preferred worldwide due to their safety, efficiency, and shorter hospital stays. The training is expected to enhance surgical capacity not only in Kiambu but across the participating counties and institutions.
Governor Wamatangi reaffirmed Kiambu County’s commitment to continued collaboration with regional and international partners to advance healthcare standards and ensure residents have access to world-class medical services.
