Kenya, South Sudan Reaffirm Commitment to Peace, Security and Regional Integration
Kenya has reaffirmed its longstanding cordial relations with the Republic of South Sudan, anchored on shared commitments to peace, security and mutual prosperity.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday met a high-level delegation from South Sudan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Monday Semaya Kumba, in Nairobi.
CS Murkomen said the bilateral talks focused on key issues of mutual interest, particularly shared border security, infrastructure development and the promotion of trade to enhance regional integration between the two neighbouring countries.
“Kenya and South Sudan enjoy strong and historic ties founded on cooperation, mutual respect and a common desire for peace and stability in the region,” Murkomen said.
He noted that both countries are keen on strengthening collaboration along their shared borders to enhance security, curb cross-border crime and promote peaceful coexistence among border communities.
The discussions also explored the development of transport infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating trade and boosting economic growth for the benefit of citizens in both nations.
CS Murkomen emphasized Kenya’s continued support for South Sudan’s peace and stabilization efforts, adding that regional cooperation remains critical to sustainable development in the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.
The meeting was attended by South Sudan’s Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy in Nairobi, Ambassador Deng Kuethpiny, Principal Administrative Secretary for Internal Security Jacob Narengo, Acting Commissioner for Refugee Affairs Mercy Mwasaru, and other senior government officials from both countries.
The engagement underscored the commitment of Kenya and South Sudan to deepen diplomatic ties and work together in advancing peace, security and economic integration across the region.
