President Ruto Hails Affordable Housing Milestones as Kenya Builds a Shared Future

President William Ruto has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transforming lives through the Affordable Housing Programme, describing it as a long-held national dream that is now becoming a lived reality for thousands of Kenyan families.

Speaking during the handover of housing units at Mukuru Estate Phase II in Nairobi, President Ruto noted that construction is ongoing in all 47 counties, with more than 240,000 housing units at various stages of completion.

“For decades, decent and affordable housing was a distant dream for many Kenyans. Today, that dream is being realised across the country,” the President said. “This programme is not just about buildings; it is about dignity, opportunity, and hope.”

The President highlighted the programme’s strong economic impact, revealing that the housing initiative has so far created approximately 480,000 jobs, largely for young Kenyans, including artisans, engineers, technicians, and other skilled workers.

“Our youth are at the centre of this transformation journey,” he said. “We salute their talent, energy, and productivity as they help build a better Kenya and move our nation steadily towards first-world standards of living.”

At Mukuru, President Ruto handed over keys to new homeowners at Riara and Muriguini sites, comprising 5,000 and 2,920 housing units respectively. He described the moment as a powerful symbol of inclusive development and social progress.

Earlier in the day, the President, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other leaders, officially opened several critical public facilities serving the Mukuru community. These included the New Mukuru Level IV Hospital, Mukuru Fire Station, Mukuru Mall, Mukuru Police Station, and the New Mukuru Primary and Pre-School.

“These facilities ensure that housing developments are supported by healthcare, security, education, and economic opportunities,” President Ruto said. “This is how we build complete, sustainable communities.”

The day concluded on a festive note, with the President joining children and residents of the New Mukuru Housing Estate to light up a Christmas tree and cut a celebratory cake.

“There was laughter in the air, smiles all around, and a touch of festive magic,” he said. “It was a beautiful reminder that this season is about community, hope, and happy hearts.”

President Ruto reiterated that the Affordable Housing Programme remains a cornerstone of the Kenya Kwanza development agenda, pledging to continue delivering safe, decent, and affordable homes for Kenyans across the nation.
