Kenya Sex Workers Alliance Calls for Responsible Enjoyment, Protection and Respect

The Kenya Sex Workers Alliance (KESWA) has called on Kenyans to enjoy pleasure responsibly while prioritising protection, safety and mutual respect.

Speaking on behalf of the Alliance, National Coordinator Carol emphasised the need for safe practices, noting that protection is essential for personal health, dignity and public well-being.

“Pleasure should never come at the cost of safety. Responsible enjoyment and protection are non-negotiable,” Carol said.

KESWA urged the public to respect sex workers, stressing that sex work is legitimate labour that deserves dignity, safety and legal protection. The Alliance reiterated its position that stigma and criminalisation continue to expose sex workers to violence and exploitation.

Carol is widely credited for championing efforts to end femicide and gender-based violence, and for working with like-minded institutions to advocate for the decriminalisation of sex work, often described as the world’s oldest profession.

KESWA noted that decriminalisation would enhance safety, improve access to health services and strengthen human rights protections for sex workers.

The Alliance called on policymakers, law enforcement agencies and the public to engage in informed dialogue and reforms that promote safety, dignity and justice for all.
