Eldoret National Polytechnic Clinches Top Honours at Africa Champions Awards 2025

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has emerged as a continental leader in technical and vocational education after being crowned the Most Innovative TVET Institution of the Year 2025 at the prestigious Africa Champions Awards gala ceremony. The colourful event was held on 23rd December 2025 at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, bringing together senior government officials, education leaders, development partners, and private sector players from across Africa.

In a remarkable double victory for the institution, Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, the Chief Principal of The Eldoret National Polytechnic, was also recognized as the Most Transformative Principal for TVET Institutions – Year 2025. The accolade highlights his visionary leadership and sustained efforts to reposition TENP as a centre of excellence in skills development.

Dr. Koech received the award from Prof. Kiplagat, Vice-Chancellor of Kabarak University, amid applause from the distinguished audience, marking a proud moment for the institution and the wider TVET sector in Kenya.

Dr. Koech expressed gratitude to the Africa Champions Awards organizers and dedicated the honours to the staff, students, governing council, and strategic partners of TENP. He noted that the recognition reflects teamwork, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering quality, industry-driven training.

“These awards are a testament to the collective effort of our entire TENP community. We have deliberately invested in innovation, modern infrastructure, digital learning, and strong industry linkages to ensure our trainees acquire relevant, market-ready skills,” said Dr. Koech.

Under his stewardship, The Eldoret National Polytechnic has undergone significant transformation, including the expansion of training facilities, adoption of competency-based education and training (CBET), integration of digital technologies in learning, and strengthening of partnerships with industry and development partners. These initiatives have enhanced student enrolment, improved training outcomes, and boosted graduate employability.

The institution has also embraced sustainability, entrepreneurship, and innovation hubs, empowering trainees to become job creators rather than job seekers. TENP’s focus on research, innovation, and practical skills has positioned it as a benchmark for TVET institutions in Kenya and the region.

The Africa Champions Awards seek to recognize individuals and institutions that demonstrate excellence, innovation, and transformative impact across various sectors. The recognition of TENP and its Chief Principal underscores the institution’s growing reputation as a leader in advancing technical and vocational education in Africa.

As TENP celebrates this milestone, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration, in line with the government’s agenda on skills development and industrialization, aimed at driving sustainable socio-economic growth.
