EACC Arrests Two Traffic Police Officers Over Alleged Bribery on Likoni–Lungalunga Road

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two traffic police officers attached to the Diani Traffic Base over allegations of bribery along the busy Likoni–Lungalunga road.

The officers, identified as Police Constable Agnes Longoet and Police Constable Alphanus Anayo, were apprehended on Wednesday following an intelligence-led operation by EACC officers. The arrests came after the Commission received multiple complaints from motorists and members of the public accusing the officers of routinely soliciting bribes.

According to the EACC, investigations revealed that the officers had been demanding money from motorists without carrying out legitimate vehicle inspections or enforcing traffic regulations. The alleged extortion was said to be widespread, with motorists targeted regardless of whether they had committed any traffic offences.

Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to the EACC Lower Coast Regional Office in Mombasa, where they are expected to record statements as investigations continue. The Commission indicated that further action will be taken in line with the law once inquiries are concluded.

The arrests form part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on bribery and corruption on major Kenyan roads, particularly during the festive season when traffic volumes increase. The EACC noted that it is intensifying intelligence gathering, surveillance, and enforcement operations targeting public officers in critical service sectors that are prone to corruption.

The Commission has reiterated its call to the public to report incidents of bribery and abuse of office, emphasizing that accountability and integrity within public service remain a top priority.
